About this course
Launched by IIM Indore in 2011, the five-year Integrated Program in Management (IPM) is the first of its kind in India. It is a unique and creative program meant for young students with managerial and leadership aspirations. Through the IPM, IIM Indore seeks to attract young students, and mould them as outstanding leaders through a world-class education. IPM is aimed at students who have passed out of class XII/Higher Secondary or equivalent from schools across India. The Program consists of 15 terms spread over a period of 5 years, with each year having 3 terms of 3 months. IPM is in two parts. The first three years build a foundation, and the last two years focus on management.
The foundation has three major elements:
- Courses in Mathematics, Statistics and Economics build analytical rigor.
- Courses in Psychology, Sociology and Political Science along with courses in Economics provide an understanding of the core disciplines on which the study of management is based.
- Courses in Science, Engineering, Humanities, Literature and Fine Arts provide breadth and perspective. A combination of analytical rigor and wide exposure equips IPM students for leadership roles and positions of responsibility in different sectors.
After 3 years of intensive study of foundational disciplines, the IPM students train as managers along with the students of the Institute’s 2-year Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP), undertaking the same course package in management studies in years 4 and 5. IPM students are required to complete a social internship at the end of year 3, and a business internship between years 4 and 5. This experiential learning inculcates leadership qualities in them and hones their managerial skills further.
This program is now being offered by 4 other IIMs – Rohtak, Ranchi, Jammu and Bodh Gaya
Exam Structure
The entrance exams to most of the top colleges are aptitude based and have questions on Quantitative Ability, General English, Logical Reasoning, General and Business Awareness and, in some cases, Management Aptitude. The difference arises because every paper has a different level of difficulty and the sub topics asked in the exam also vary from exam to exam. Thus the focus has to be on learning the basic concepts and then practicing through mocks to understand the different type of papers. Details of topics and different exams are as follows:
- Quantitative aptitude – Mostly covers topics from class VIII, IX and X like percentages, ratios, time speed distance, averages and some geometry. DU JAT and IPMAT also have questions based on Class XI and XII math.
- General English – Questions are asked to check reading comprehension, grammar. Vocabulary and critical reasoning skills. A general reading habit coupled with Team Satyam material should give enough practice to ace this section.
- Logical Reasoning – Questions in this section are based on arrangements, blood relations, general reasoning, series etc. To ace this section a student requires practice with different types of questions.
- General and Business Awareness – Covers both static GK and current affairs. A student needs to read the current affair material on a regular basis to ace this section.
Distribution of questions and time allotted to students in different exams is captured in the table below:

Why IPM?
Over the years, for the students, IPM has become a credible option apart from Engineering, Law and Medical. Now, a student aspiring to pursue a career in management need not diverge from his path by going for engineering or law. IPM stands out in terms of the environment that it provides and the time that it gives a student to think and plan his/her life and align the reality with the aspirations. Some good reasons why IPM is a great choice for students are given below.
IIM After 10+2: The IPM program is a gateway to one of the top IIMs, IIM Indore. As IPM is still in its early stages of mustering the interest of young aspirant; it provides the chance of making it to the IIM when the competition is extremely less. While almost 1.8 lakh students appeared for CAT in 2015, only about 18,000 appeared for the IPM test in the same year. Comparing it with the B.Tech graduates who pursue an MBA after engineering and spend 6 years in doing so, IPM saves the students’ one year as it gets completed within a matter of 5 years.
Easier Entry: For MBA admissions IIM accept the CAT score. But the interview shortlist also includes marks for profile apart from CAT score. But for the IPM shortlist, only marks in the IPM entrance exams are considered.
Holistic Education: A big reason for IPM’s uniqueness is its well charted curriculum. IPM imparts the necessary knowledge and skills, not just in the field of management but in various other subjects. The students’ intellect is nourished by the world class IIM faculty.
The IIM Brand Value: The unmatched IIM degree adds tremendous value to a candidate’s credentials. A 10+2 student can aspire to get benefit from this brand value without having to do a separate under-graduate course in any other field of study.
Better Placements: In direct comparison with engineering and law, the IPM is quite ahead of both of them in terms of the placements. While a fresher graduating from an engineering college bags an average salary package of anything between 3 – 7 lakhs, an IPM graduate gets empowered with a salary package of something between 15 – 20 lakhs. Not just in terms of money, MBA students start their careers with a good stead. While an engineer starts his career in the lowest strata of executives, an MBA from an IIM gives the students’ career a head-start.
